History

People's has been family owned and operated since its inception in the early 1890s as People's Lighting Fixture Company. It was first located on the corner of Baltimore and Frederick streets. In 1924 the business was incorporated and moved further up into the Old Town section of the city to its present location. On July 28, 1933 the business name was officially changed to People's Electrical Supply Company, Inc. From the beginning, the company was geared to selling light fixtures and so that remains a cornerstone of our business today. We have enjoyed a relationship with PROGRESS LIGHTING that spanned most of the 20th century and is still going strong, making our company one of Progress Lighting's oldest full-line distributors still under original ownership. Although our primary panel and breaker line is SIEMENS, People's can provide customers the full range of most name brand breakers upon request.
